The Big Legal Lesson 2024: volunteer to run a school workshop

Help us start a conversation about the law in schools

The Big Legal Lesson is back! Since 2020, our annual campaign has seen 200,000 young people across England and Wales engage in a conversation about the law and their human rights.

This year, we are giving legal professionals two ways to get involved…

a) Partner with us and run a legal workshop

As part of this year’s campaign, we have created a Legal Workshop version that will work in the same format as our current corporate volunteer sessions.

Over 2.5 hours, volunteers work with small groups of young people, aged 13-15, to run breakout activities specially designed to encourage debate and discussion. It will encourage students to consider what the law is, who makes it, and how it impacts their day-to-day life.

We can help connect your firm to a school and facilitate a session either at your offices or in a classroom.

b) Deliver The Big Legal Lesson in a local school

You can deliver the Big Legal Lesson resources in a school on your own, using our ready-made resource pack with activities for young people aged 5 to 18.

We will provide a volunteer toolkit with guidance on how to reach out to a school, set up a session and deliver the resources.

For both options, please register your interest here and a member of the team will be in touch shortly to arrange the next steps.

Why volunteer?

This engaging volunteering opportunity is a great way for your business to build links with your local community and for legal professionals to support young people to learn about the law and the ways it impacts their everyday life.

Our Legal Workshops are designed to be interactive and hugely enjoyable for all participants. The students and their teachers state that taking part in the workshops increases young people’s knowledge, helps them to gain key skills, like debating and team working skills, as well as raising their aspirations.

Express your interest in volunteering.
